    Alan McElroy is an award-winning Irish comedian, actor, content creator, and MC. He was recently nominated for Best MC at the NZ Comedy Guild Awards. Alan hosts Eeejits Abroad, a podcast where ‘two Irish fools living in New Zealand’ talk about life.

    MĀORI IN ENGINEERING
    Alyce Lysaght is a water engineer, Engineering NZ board member, and podcast producer & presenter. In 2021 she debuted the Māori in Engineering podcast, which seeks to profile and elevate Māori in the engineering profession: Hapaitia te pūkahatanga Māori.

    Collin Bjork is a Senior Lecturer in English and Media Studies at Massey University. He teaches podcasting and produces Pod Uni, a podcast about podcasting. Collin is working on a book about the relationship between true crime podcasting and public opinion.

    Johanna Cosgrove is an award-winning actor, comedian and writer. She is co-host of the cult-hit podcast 'Rats in the Gutter', and co-founded social enterprise Nopesisters Clothing. Her solo show AUNTY picked up multiple accolades and toured internationally to sellout crowds.

In just a couple of years Leo Magri & Taylor O.G. have built a traditional, online, and social media ecosystem around their prolific Altbays Table Talk podcast. To date, Altbays.NZ has released 240+ podcast episodes, and amassed 30k+ followers and nearly a million likes on TikTok. They also publish Coromandel community magazine Coromind. Leo & Taylor take the stage to tell the Altbays story, offering insight into their production and promotion processes.

“There’s a lot of noise and clutter out there in podcast world. Discoverability and cut through is hard, especially on international platforms like Spotify and Apple. But there are opportunities for independent podcasts to partner with rova and/or iHeartRadio for ad representation, distribution, content deals, and more. A strong local podcast industry is good for all of us.”

A panel session with Michael Wright (The Press) and Ryan Wolf (Guilt). Moderated by Collin Bjork. As one of the most popular podcast genres, true crime podcasting balances journalism and justice with entertaining and engaging the listener. This panel unpacks the hows & whys of applying journalistic, ethical, and legal principles to investigative podcasting.

Lewis Tennant (AUT University)

In late 2018 Lewis began archiving local podcasts via his NZ Podcast Directory, before turning the list into a research project last year. This session presents the most comprehensive data on New Zealand podcasting to date… from who is making our podcasts to what podcasts we are making.
